​MAJOR LUNAR STANDSTILL
We are at the apex of our cycle here in March 2025. Lunistice pendulum pause point - maximum geocentric declination - as far from the celestial equator as it swings.
Moon Rises today at 11 am EST at the northernmost horizon point. Daytime moonrise viewing can be “tricky”- in my area we are blessed with a clear day- I will be going to a vista spot to see if I can view it from here.
Many of our sacred sites around the globe are aligned for the viewing and special demarcation of this northernmost horizon moon rise moment. Stonehenge in England, Newark Earthworks Octagon in Ohio, Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, Callanish in Scotland and many more. I have a modern local sun moon calendar here in Massachusetts too! Built by a professor at UMass Amherst.
Our upcoming Lunar Eclipse - Equinox - Solar Eclipse passageway in March is a product of this Major Lunar Standstill.
Eclipses occur at the Equinox during this major moment of the 18.6 year Lunar Cycle.
I will share more about all this significant special celestial mechanics - for now I am getting ready to go out and play and set up for this special moment.
Wanted to share with you- in case you could pop outside and watch this moonrise too. Look quite North of East on the horizon. Half Moon Rising mid day
From this day on, our lunar pendulum swings back. Just as the sun “sol” seems to “standstill” sistere at Solstice. So does the Moon at Lunistice.
And he we are. At Celestial stillpoint.

Celestial Sky treat tonight
Moon slides up next to Uranus
And then marches by the Pleiades, Hyades and Jupiter tomorrow.
Southern hemisphere will get a real treat- Moon Occultation of Pleiades - where Moon passes right in front of “eclipsing” the stars.

JUPITER WITH ALDEBARAN HYADES PLEIADES
I was nestled in bed under covers, and then I re-remembered my Celestial Gatekeeping for tonight -
It’s Jupiter close to Aldebaran tonight
Jupiter goes back direct motion tomorrow- so it will be moving back up the horns of the Taurus bull and further away from Hyades,Aldebaran &Pleiades. Choice point!! Get dressed and drag downstairs and go out to see or….not…..
I did it!
What a Crystal clear star studded sky. Wildly windy and frigidly cold and oh so worth it. Wish I was out there now….
Yet happy to be back warm in bed

​Lunar Occultation of Mars
Moon “Eclipses” Mars tonight, January 13, 2025
This is my picture from 5:55 pm EST
The moon will get closer and closer to mars and then cover over Mars tonight. As the clouds clear- pop outside and take a look.
The moon will cover over occult Mars
From 9:30 - 10:30 pm ish EDT (times vary with location)
Then Mars will pop back into view above the moon. A special celestial treat! Visible from most of North American continent tonight.
